Townsville is a very popular destination for families with kids to take their annual holidays. Over the last decade or so, Townsville has evolved from a corporate capital into a tourist destination in its own right and since the transformation of the Strand region into a waterfront paradise, there has been new accommodation developed to meet the increase in demand. Magnetic island is an island suburb which lies just offshore and it has been a popular family holiday destination for decades.
Townsville has some great tourist attractions that the kids will love. The reef HQ aquarium display is one of the best in the country and the Maritime Museum is really interesting with fantastic displays. The kids will love to come to Townsville for sporting events. The V8 supercars now have an annual event which has seen all of Townsville’s accommodation booked out way in advance. Similarly, the kids will love to go to a Cowboys rugby league match at dairy farmers Stadium.
The Strand region has everything to keep the kids entertained. There is a 50 meter Olympic swimming pool and a great water park for all the family to cool off. The beaches are patrolled and stinger nets are there to protect swimmers. There is also a pier from which the kids can go fishing so it is an ideal destination to take the kids for a day. Tours are also popular or you can go on a fishing charter or a snorkelling or diving trip to the Great Barrier Reef.
Townsville has some great holiday places to stay. The Strand and the Palmer Street Precinct are the most popular for this and there is quite a bit to choose from especially in apartment style resorts. All of this combines to make Townsville the ideal place to visit for a holiday with the kids.
