Palm Cove, in Far north Queensland is an ideal holiday destination to take the kids to. It is located midway between Cairns and Port Douglas along what is one of Australia’s most scenic sections of coast line and close to spectacular rainforests, the Great Barrier Reef, wildlife parks, golf courses and tourist attractions like the Skyrail and Tjapukai aboriginal experience. This gondola ride travels up the escarpment from the coastal plain to the Atherton Tableland at treetop level, placing you almost in the rainforest. Kuranda is a quaint little town set in the rainforests and has many great tourist attractions. The trip back to Cairns can be done on the train and the rail service crosses the spectacular bridge across the Barron River, right at the Barron falls.
It is easy to take the kids to the Daintree rainforest for the day. The trip includes crossing the Daintree River by vehicular barge and then the road winds through the rainforest to Cape Tribulation. If you have a four wheel drive vehicle you can continue north along the Bloomfield Track that eventually takes you to Cooktown. On the way home, stop off at the Mossman Gorge for a swim in the magnificent mountain river.
