Of all the Whitsunday Islands, Daydream Island resort stands out as the best option for a family holiday. Daydream is one of the smallest islands in the Whitsunday group which makes it a more intimate holiday destination. Daydream Island is also one of the oldest resort islands with a history going back to the early 1900’s. Don’t let this deter you though as the resort has undergone several complete rebuilds during that time, the latest being in the last decade. Now owned by the China Capital Investment Group, Daydream Island has the best spa and beauty facilities for mum, and activities to keep your family entertained for days.
The new resort is constructed at the northern end of the island and the old resort at the southern end now provides staff accommodation. The resort is built in two, two storey wings with a connecting restaurant and services area. The interior section contained between the two wings has several swimming pools and the gardens are tropical and beautifully landscaped. Guest accommodation facing this area on either side is known as the pool view rooms and the outside accommodation facing over the beautiful waters of the Whitsunday Passage are known as the Ocean View rooms. There is also a section devoted to suites and apartments.
Two major restaurant areas cater for most of the dining options with “Mermaids restaurant” being the signature restaurant of the resort. Poolside snacks and room service are also available. Daydream Island is a favourite place among Australians for a holiday wedding. There is a magnificent chapel with a huge glass wall overlooking the ocean and a magnificent tropical beach setting at Lovers Cove which is also extremely popular. Daydream Island Weddings need to be booked well in advance to ensure you can be catered for.

There are Jet ski and sailing craft available as well as paddle ski’s. The island has a dive shop and charter boats to the Great Barrier Reef and Whitehaven Beach call daily. The tour desk can arrange all of these things for you. The highest part of the island can be accessed by a walking track which runs for about a kilometre from the southern end of the island to the northern end.
